Why You Should Attend Light Up the Square 2024
Light Up the Square marks the start of the holiday season in Mississauga with the first lighting of the city’s Christmas tree and the grand opening of its largest outdoor skating rink. From mesmerizing art installations to live music and interactive activities, this event is a winter wonderland you don’t want to miss.
Event Highlights
1. Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
At 7:00 PM, Mayor and Council will officially light the magnificent Christmas tree, filling the square with holiday cheer.
2. Outdoor Skating Rink
Lace up your skates and glide into the holiday spirit on Mississauga’s largest outdoor skating rink. Rentals are available on-site for those who don’t have their own skates.
3. moonGARDEN Installation
Experience moonGARDEN, a world-renowned light installation by Lucion. Featuring four majestic spheres that host shadow theatres and immersive soundscapes, this art piece is a dreamlike invitation to celebrate inclusivity. The installation runs from November 23, 2024, to January 6, 2025.
4. 50th Anniversary Projection Mapping
In honor of Mississauga’s 50th anniversary, local artists will transform the Hazel McCallion Central Library’s façade into a stunning canvas of 3D projection mapping. This large-scale digital art installation will run from November 22 to 24, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM nightly.
5. Vibrant Entertainment Line-Up
The main stage will host a variety of performances, from kid-friendly shows to live music. Here’s the schedule:
