New Rogers Stadium to Rock the City in 2025
Big news for music lovers in Toronto! Live Nation Canada has just announced the launch of the new Rogers Stadium, a brand-new, open-air concert venue set to open in the summer of 2025. Located on the former site of Downsview Airport, this massive 50,000-capacity stadium will become the largest purpose-built outdoor concert venue in the city—and one of the biggest in the country!
On Thursday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow made an announcement featuring big names. The new venue, expected to operate during the summer months, will draw in some of the world’s biggest artists, boosting Toronto’s profile as a top destination for live music. And with its prime location at YZD (the newly named area of the former Downsview Airport), it promises to be easily accessible for everyone across the GTA.
What Can We Expect?
Erik Hoffman, an executive at Live Nation Canada, highlighted that the stadium will offer a premium fan experience with food, beverages, and a festival-like atmosphere. From K-Pop and Afrobeats to Latin and Punjabi music, there’s something for everyone. This venue accommodates not only the mega-stars but also the diverse music tastes of Toronto’s vibrant communities.
“We’re excited to bring a new home for stadium-level artists,” Hoffman said. “Rogers Stadium will elevate Toronto’s concert experience and put us on the map as a global music destination.”
More Than Just Music
But it’s not just about the concerts! Rogers Stadium is part of a larger plan to transform the 370-acre site (now called YZD) into a mixed-use community. It will include new neighborhoods, housing, and more. Over 30 years, the area will see a $30 billion redevelopment. This will bring 24,000 new homes and seven distinct neighborhoods.
For now, the focus is on bringing live music back to this iconic space. Downsview has a rich history of hosting major acts like the Rolling Stones, and this new venue will continue that legacy in a big way.
Boosting the Local Economy
Premier Ford and Mayor Chow also highlighted the economic impact of this project. Ford called the new stadium a “huge boost” for Ontario’s arts, culture, and tourism sector, noting that it will create thousands of jobs and attract visitors from around the world.
“This new music venue will enhance Toronto’s reputation as a world-leading destination for the biggest touring acts around the globe,” said Mayor Chow.
