Häagen-Dazs and Stella Artois Turn Toronto Into a Summer Situationship
Toronto’s latest brand flirtation started with a simple question: what happens when two very different kinds of “pints” end up in the same conversation?
Häagen-Dazs recently launched its Let’s Grab a Pint campaign, using the familiar term to create a playful link between its ice cream and drinks.
Stella Artois noticed the opening and decided to join the fun, turning the campaign into a billboard back-and-forth that quickly caught people’s attention.

How the Billboard Flirtation Started
The original campaign from Häagen-Dazs centered on the double meaning of “pint.” For an ice cream brand, the word points to a tub of frozen dessert. In another setting, it can mean heading out for a drink.
That bit of wordplay gave Stella Artois an easy way into the conversation.
Last week, the beer brand responded with its own billboard move, creating what looked less like a standard advertising campaign and more like two brands publicly testing the waters.
Instead of letting the moment end there, Häagen-Dazs answered today.
The result is a playful exchange that feels closer to a summer storyline than a typical ad campaign.
A Brand Exchange Made for Social Media
The fun comes from the uncertainty.
Neither brand needs to spell out what happens next for audiences to follow along. One campaign opened the door, another brand stepped through it, and a fresh response has kept the interaction going.
People have also taken the exchange to social media, adding another layer to the conversation. What began with outdoor advertising is now something audiences can react to and discuss online.
The situation has all the makings of a modern brand flirtation, complete with a little tension and no clear relationship status.
Is There More to Come?
For now, there is no need to put an official label on the relationship.
The appeal is in watching the two brands play off one another. Their products are very different, but the shared language gives them enough room to create a back-and-forth that feels natural rather than forced.
It also leaves the audience with the best part of any situationship: the question of what happens next.
As the original tease puts it, “Will this be the end of summer fling or something more?”
