LA LA Bakeshop Closes Its Annex Location, Something new Around
LA LA Bakeshop’s Annex shop has officially shut down, and it’s one of those closures people actually felt. The bakery confirmed that its 346A Bloor St. W. location closed on November 17, ending a run that turned the space into a go-to stop for anyone craving pandan desserts, lava buns, or anything with that signature LA LA custard.
The Annex shop built a loyal crowd over the years. There was almost always someone walking out with a pink box, and weekend lineups became part of the routine. So when the closure dropped, a lot of regulars rushed to the comments to share their favourites — pandan sticky rice cakes, crème brûlée buns, tiramisu, and of course, the lava croissants that exploded all over TikTok.
A Tease That Something New Might Be Coming
Even though they closed the doors, LA LA didn’t leave things on a sad note. Right after posting the announcement, the team shared a clip of a freshly painted storefront. No address. No timeline. Just enough to say, “We’re not done yet.” Naturally, Toronto food pages started speculating immediately.
Maybe they’re moving deeper into downtown. Maybe they’re expanding. Maybe they’re switching to a bigger space. LA LA hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but the teaser was enough to keep fans hopeful that this isn’t the last time the bakery pops up in the city.
Where You Can Still Get LA LA Right Now
If the Annex was your spot, you still have options. LA LA’s Scarborough and Waterloo locations are running as usual, and both carry the same lineup of buns, cakes, and pastries.
The brand also has international shops in Ho Chi Minh City and New York City, which surprised people when they first opened but now feel like part of LA LA’s identity — a Toronto favourite that grew beyond the city.
What This Means for Toronto’s Dessert Scene
LA LA was one of the few bakeries that blended Vietnamese flavours with nostalgic Southeast Asian desserts and made them mainstream. Their Annex shop helped push that trend forward, and closing it leaves a noticeable gap in the neighbourhood.
Still, because the team hinted at something new, this feels more like a move than a disappearance. Until they announce the next location, Scarborough will likely be the main stop for anyone chasing that lava bun.
The Annex chapter might be over, but LA LA’s influence—and its fanbase—aren’t going anywhere.
