1,200 Drones Will Light Up Toronto’s Sky for a Harry Potter Celebration

· · · ·

Toronto is getting a different kind of Harry Potter™ experience this fall, and this one will not take place inside a theatre.

For two nights, the night sky above YZD will become the setting for a large-scale show inspired by the films, giving fans a new way to revisit some of the series’ most familiar moments.

2026 marks 25 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone first reached cinemas in 2001, with celebrations taking place across the world throughout the year.

A New Way to See the Wizarding World

DroneArt Show: Harry Potter™ will take over YZD, the former Downsview Airport at 590 Wilson Avenue in North York, on September 25 and 26, 2026. The show starts at 8:00 PM on both nights.

1,200 illuminated drones will move together above the audience to create aerial images inspired by memorable moments from the Harry Potter films. The display will also combine music and dialogue from the movies, turning the open sky into a moving backdrop.

A live violinist will perform during the show, adding another layer to the outdoor production. Organizers describe the experience as a first-of-its-kind open-air drone spectacle, with the drones, sound, and live performance designed to work together.

The audience will not simply watch from the ground, either. Guests will receive synchronized LED wristbands that light up during key scenes. This lets the crowd a small part in the visual show as the lights move along with what is happening overhead.

The event is part of an international tour, with selected cities across North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe hosting the production.
