Ariete e Toro Toronto is a small sandwich shop offering big flavors inspired by Italy. Located just north of Yonge and Eglinton, this cozy storefront brings authentic Florentine-style schiacciata sandwiches to the local food scene. Since opening in February 2025 — right before a major snowstorm — the shop has already made waves with its made-to-order sandwiches, imported snacks, and welcoming vibe.

Created by a couple with years of hospitality experience, Ariete e Toro was born after a trip to Florence, where they fell in love with the city’s iconic sandwiches. Realizing Toronto was missing this type of offering, they decided to recreate that experience at home.

Today, the small space on Keewatin Avenue serves just six guests at a time. While waiting, visitors can watch their sandwiches being made from scratch or browse imported Italian treats like cookies, sauces, and potato chips.

What Makes Ariete e Toro Stand Out

Each sandwich starts with fresh schiacciata bread — a crispy, olive-oil-kissed flatbread that’s a staple in Tuscany. The fillings range from cured meats and cheeses to house-made spreads and fresh vegetables. Customers can choose from preset creations or build their own.

Here’s a closer look at their standout sandwich lineup:

San Lazzaro ($18)

This is a sweet-meets-savory combo with San Michele prosciutto, gorgonzola dolce crema, saba vinegar, arugula, and crisp pear crudo. The pear adds a refreshing crunch that balances the saltiness of the cured meat.

Enzo ($17)

A nutty, creamy option made with mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio pesto, and crushed pistachios. Olive oil and basil tie everything together for a fresh finish.

Ultimo ($17)

This one’s for fennel lovers. It features finocchiona salami, fennel crudo, onion crema, and sundried tomatoes on toasted bread. A rosemary oil drizzle lifts the herbaceous flavors.

Nuovo Toro ($19)

A bold sandwich with petto di manzo (beef brisket), bomba calabrese, caciocavallo soresina, pine nuts, and pesto genovese. It’s savory, spicy, and slightly crunchy.

According to a customer in line, “You can tell they care about the ingredients. Every bite feels thought-out.”

What’s Next

The owners, who prefer to stay out of the spotlight, said their goal is to introduce people to quality sandwiches that go beyond deli basics. “This isn’t fast food. It’s about slow prep, flavor, and a bit of Italy in every bite,” one of them shared.

While the current space is small, there are plans to expand the menu and perhaps the location as the brand grows. For now, they’re focused on serving the neighborhood and building relationships with regulars.
