Mattel and Bucket Listers are bringing the Malibu Barbie Cafe to Toronto after earlier runs in the United States and Australia.

According to Bucket Listers, the pop-up has welcomed more than 250,000 guests across ten previous runs. Past locations include New York, Chicago, Miami, Austin, Boston, Houston, San Diego, Las Vegas, the Mall of America, and Melbourne.

The Toronto cafe will take over the former Goose Island Brewhouse space at the corner of The Esplanade and Church Street. The building sits near St. Lawrence Market, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and Union Station.

The design takes ideas from Malibu, California, during the 1970s. Guests can expect pink rooms, beach details, a life-size Barbie box, photo backdrops, and a roller rink.

Bucket Listers founder Andy Lederman said Toronto was the company’s first choice for its Canadian launch.

“We love Canada, and especially the city of Toronto,” Lederman told 6ix Retail.

He added that the company found a strong venue partner and a central location on The Esplanade.

What Food Will Be Served?

Chef Becky Brown leads the all-day fast-casual menu. She was a finalist on MasterChef and won an episode of Chopped.

Organizers have not released the full Toronto menu. Current reports point to diner-style meals, themed drinks, colourful desserts, and all-day favourites.

Menu items from past cafe locations may not appear in Toronto. Each city can have different dishes and prices.

Toronto tickets will include food and merchandise credits. Organizers have not shared the value of those credits.

Roller Skating, Photo Spots, and Special Events

The cafe will include a roller rink where guests can rent skates. Money raised from each roller skate rental will be donated to Girls Inc., a group that supports girls through education, guidance, and community programs.

A calendar of added events is also planned. Announced programs include:

  • Cupcake decorating classes
  • Paint parties
  • Roller skating
  • Photo areas
  • Themed nights
  • Skate nights for guests aged 21 and older
  • A Barbie merchandise shop

Dates and added fees for these programs have not been posted.

The main cafe is open to all ages. Children younger than two will not need a ticket, according to the current Bucket Listers listing.

Past Malibu Barbie Cafe runs have sold out, so joining the waitlist before ticket sales open may give you more time to choose a date. Bucket Listers has not shared the Toronto ticket-release date yet.

The cafe is also a short walk from Union Station. Taking transit may be easier than looking for parking near The Esplanade, mainly during busy evenings and weekends.

Wait until the official Toronto booking page lists the menu, time slots, and skate rules before making full plans. Details from Boston, Las Vegas, or older locations may not apply in Toronto.

What Toronto Visitors Can Expect

The Malibu Barbie Cafe will give Toronto fans a place to eat, skate, shop, and take photos starting August 13.

The mix of diner food, pink decor, skating, and hands-on events could make it a popular stop for families, collectors, friend groups, and longtime Barbie fans. Its location near St. Lawrence Market also makes it easy to add to a downtown day out.

Ticket prices and sale dates are still missing. For now, the main step is joining the official waitlist and watching the cafe’s social pages for updates.
