Air Canada Looking to Get More Americans Enjoying the Canadian Winter
Some may lament the arrival of cold weather on paper, but when you get to experience sunny days surrounded by snow, the crisp air that encases landscapes that can’t be seen anywhere else in the world, and even the fun ways that people in much more urbanized areas make the most of the winter, you certainly won’t regret braving the chill. Canada’s tourist department, Destination Canada, sees all of this as a major selling point for the country.
So, Destination Canada has teamed up with Air Canada to offer an even easier way to enjoy the winter delights of Canada over the next year. People across the US have the chance to get to the True North with zero cost, and once here – especially if they end up in Ontario – there’ll be plenty of amazing, cost-effective experiences and activities to dive into!
The SnOOOw Day Giveaway
People across the United States are being invited to enter the SnOOOw Day giveaway prize draw throughout this month. Courtesy of Air Canada, Destination Canada is giving away 50 prizes for the winners of the draw, with each prize being two economy round-trip tickets to one of Canada’s fine cities. Aimed at inspiring the same anticipation of a snow day that we all love, everyone has until December 20, 2024, to get in on the draw.
All of the winners of the Air Canada tickets will be notified in January next year, and from there the tickets will be valid for trips taking place at any time between January 2025 and March 2026. The website even gives you a way to create a special SnOOOw Day out-of-office message ready for your trip. Montréal, Edmonton, Vancouver, and, of course, Toronto headline the destinations – all of which are major hubs for Air Canada.
Making the Most of Freebies in Toronto
Getting to Canada’s biggest city for free would be a huge win for anyone, but from there, visitors can expect to have even more fun on the house. There are loads of free and close-to-free activities to enjoy in the city and across the province of Ontario. In the biting cold of November and December, there are few more idyllic outdoor activities than visiting the Distillery Historic District.
Starting in the second week of November each year, November 13 in 2024, the Winter Village opens every day from 10 am, with free entry available for all on Monday, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays through to the middle of December. Featuring special festive food and drinks stalls, loads of ways to shop for the holidays, the captivating Illuminarium, and cozy little wooden vendor cabins, it’s one of Toronto’s best winter attractions.
While out and about in Toronto, you can also explore other great locations like the St. Lawrence Market, the Kensington Market, High Park, Nathan Phillips Square – which transforms into a winter wonderland at the end of each year – and even test your mettle on the waterfront of The Beaches in the east-end. Plus, you’re not far from the skiing and snowboarding hotspots at Earl Bales Park or Blue Mountain Resort.
Enjoying Free Stuff Throughout the Day
There’s so much to do, see, and explore in and around Toronto and all other Canadian cities that Air Canada will be taking its winners to, but at some point, you’ll just want to kick back and unwind in a warm room with something fun to do. Luckily, for those wanting to keep the freebies rolling, there are plenty of great ways to have fun without cost in Canada.
For some forms of entertainment, it’s as simple as having a smartphone linked to the Wi-Fi to get in on the action. Those who enjoy their casino games can find online casino operators with bonus offerings; not only do new players get a welcome bonus of up to $1,600, but each day, you also get ten Free Shots at the $1 million jackpot.
If more of a passive session of entertainment is your preference, there’s plenty to lap up in Canada. On standard TV broadcasts, for example, you can catch the highlights from the night before and even live games throughout the week for the NHL. Hockey fans will get more action than they could quantifiably wish for, especially with Sportsnet and TVA Sports streams and broadcasts at their fingertips.
Alternatively, there are vast libraries of hugely popular modern and classic films and TV shows available to stream for free. Two platforms stand out in this regard: Pluto TV and Tubi. Pluto TV boasts a much more contemporary offering, drawing in shows and films that have been huge hits over the last couple of decades, whereas Tubi’s library has more of a classic sheen to it. But, then again, quality stands the test of time.
