Beertown and Burdock Brewery Team Up for Ducktown Cold IPA
Ducks may not be the first image people connect with craft beer, but they have become a big part of Burdock Brewery’s personality. This playful theme is now at the heart of a new collaboration with Beertown.
Ducktown West Coast Session Cold IPA is the latest beer from Beertown’s Collaboration Nation series. It marks the third release from the series to reach LCBO shelves, giving beer fans another chance to try a limited-edition brew created by two Canadian beer brands.
The partnership puts together Burdock’s creative approach to brewing and Beertown’s focus on beers that are easy to enjoy.
A Duck-Inspired Burdock Tradition
At Burdock Brewery, the duck theme goes far beyond a mascot. Co-owner Matt Park has called himself a “ducker” and explained that ducks are his favourite birds because they are easy to spot, fun to watch, and a “great bird for getting into birds.”
The lighthearted view has helped shape the brewery over time. Its duck-inspired beer lineup includes Ducks, Double Ducks, and Triple Ducks, which have built a loyal following among craft beer fans.
Those releases reflect what Burdock aims to bring to the glass: beer that has character and technical thought behind it while remaining approachable.
For Beertown, that made the brewery a strong fit for Collaboration Nation, a series built around partnerships and the stories behind them.
Built for an Easy-Drinking Pint
Jennifer Tamse, Director of Beer and Beverage at Charcoal Group of Restaurants, Beertown’s parent company, said the series looks for shared ground between its partners.
“Collaboration Nation is all about bringing people together through unique stories and creating beers that genuinely reflect both partners,” Tamse said.
She added that Ducktown offered a balance of technical brewing, drinkability, and personality, with its playful duck artwork adding another layer to the release.
The beer fits Beertown’s “drink less, drink better” approach. At 4.0 per cent alcohol by volume, Ducktown is designed to offer plenty of hop character without becoming heavy.
What is in Ducktown
The limited-edition brew takes inspiration from classic West Coast IPAs while using Cold IPA brewing techniques. It is made with Lager yeast and dry-hopped with Amarillo, Chinook, Simcoe, and El Dorado.
The finished beer brings together bright citrus, pine and light tropical fruit flavours. It ends clean and dry, while keeping the lighter, approachable quality expected from a session beer.
Tamse described the result as “crisp, refreshing and incredibly quaffable,” while noting that it still delivers the character associated with a West Coast IPA.
