Grab your seat at the table because Indigenous Food Lab is bringing a whole new flavour of celebration to CSI Spadina on September 28th. It’s your chance to engage in Indigenous foodways, taste wild-foraged ingredients, and discover the flavors of First Nations’ traditions—all prepared by two chefs with a passion for storytelling through food.

At Indigenous Food Lab, a carefully curated tasting menu celebrates Ontario’s early harvest, where seasonal ingredients like elderberry and sumac are the highlights.

Chefs Taylor Parker and Matthew Anthony Knight-Barton are bringing their diverse skills to craft something unique: a communal dining experience rooted in Indigenous traditions.

Each course will explore terroir—the “flavour of a place”—as these chefs create dishes that reconnect us to the land and its bounty. Fresh, local, and wild ingredients that are harvested at their peak create dishes that combine storytelling and taste.

Why You Should Be There

  • Celebrate Indigenous Heritage – The event falls days before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is the perfect moment to reflect on and engage meaningfully with Canada’s Indigenous heritage.
  • Exclusive Culinary Experience – Indigenous food is rarely represented in Toronto’s dining scene. No doubt, it is a unique opportunity to experience it at a fine dining level.
  • Contribute to a Greater Cause – A portion of the proceeds will support The Depanneur’s Pay It Forward program, helping to provide fresh meals to the elderly and unhoused in Toronto’s Indigenous community. Plus, the event includes two free seats for Indigenous community members.
  • Support Local and foraged Ingredients – From weather-dependent wild foods to handpicked herbs, every meal tells the story of nature’s rhythms.

Indigenous Food Lab goes beyond indulging in amazing food. By joining, you’re part of a movement that celebrates Indigenous culinary heritage while raising awareness about the importance of representation in Canada’s food landscape. Plus, you’ll have a front-row seat to watch two incredibly talented chefs showcase their creativity while enjoying a cozy, community-focused atmosphere.
