Sticky Bakery Closing as Owner Moves to Australia
Sticky Bakery, a favorite among Toronto’s sweet tooth crowd, will soon be closing its doors as owner Jean Blacklock prepares to relocate to Australia. The popular bakery, known for its decadent cakes, cupcakes, and cinnamon buns, has been a hit in the city since opening its physical storefront on St. Clair West in November 2024. The Sticky Bakery Toronto closure comes as a result of Jean’s move, marking the end of an era for this beloved local spot.
From Prairie Girl to Sticky Bakery
Jean Blacklock’s bakery journey in Toronto is well-known. Before Sticky Bakery, she ran the much-loved Prairie Girl Bakery, famous for its cupcakes. After closing Prairie Girl in 2021, Jean transitioned to an online bakery, Sticky Bakery, which quickly gained a loyal following. When the storefront opened in 2024, Sticky Bakery became an immediate hit, with treats often selling out just hours after opening.
Exciting New Chapter in Australia
The closure comes as a result of an exciting personal development. Jean and her husband, Andrew, are moving to Australia after Andrew was offered a career opportunity. In an Instagram post, Jean shared the news with fans, expressing both excitement and sadness.
“Earlier this year, an exciting career opportunity for Andrew came his way – in Australia,” Jean wrote. “We have decided to pursue this adventure, and therefore, we will be closing Sticky Bakery.”
While Jean is excited about the new chapter, she expressed heartfelt gratitude for the community’s support during her time in Toronto.
A Fond Farewell
Jean reflected on the past three years of running Sticky Bakery on the bakery’s Instagram page, highlighting the amazing support from the local neighborhood and her dedicated team. “It has been a blast!” she said, also thanking her loyal customers for the love they’ve shown.
The bakery’s last day of business will be May 18. However, Jean mentioned that this could change depending on when a new buyer takes over the location. Fans of Sticky Bakery are encouraged to visit before the closure, especially with Easter just around the corner.
Although the news is bittersweet, Jean’s move to Australia signals an exciting new adventure. Toronto will miss the delicious pastries that made Sticky Bakery a standout in the city’s food scene, but Jean’s next step offers fresh opportunities for her and her family.
Sticky Bakery will remain a cherished memory for many Torontonians who enjoyed the bakery’s sweet treats and warm community spirit. While no bakery can replace Sticky Bakery, there are several other Toronto bakeries you can try.
